Is laser hair removal safe? All laser hair removal equipment used by LaserKool are approved by U.S. Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) and CE medical graded to perform on all human body parts and skin types. Therapists are well trained and equipment are under regular checking and calibration to always ensure the best and safe conditions.

According to FDA, laser can achieve permeant hair reduction but apart from the advertisements, no particular brand and model of laser hair removal equipment is recommended.

LaserKool has been handling clients from more than 60 countries. Skin type, hair colour and body part are considered to the appropriate treatment. Patience of operator, pain management and right treatment interval etc. beside laser settings such as wavelength, spot size, fluence, pulse duration, are all important factors contribute to a comfortable, safe and effective laser hair removal treatment. LaserKool offers free face-to-face consultation for detail explanation and a free test as well.

Commonly used laser at LaserKool:

Alexandrite 755nm – suitable to light skin and fine hairs; Nd:Yag 1064nm – suitable to dark skin/ recently tanned skin and thick hairs; Lightsheer Diode 800nm – patented vacuum assisted cooling free technology for client vulnerable to frostnip

Lumenis Splendor X – Blend X is the most advanced technology. It is the first laser hair removal machine approved by FDA with synchronized emission of Alexandrite 755nm laser and Nd:YAG 1064nm laser while proportions and pulse duration are independently adjustable. Advantages of both laser types can be enjoyed. Unlike the traditional round laser spot, Lumenis Splendor X comes with the world first square shape fibre that significantly reduced hair missing in between gaps of round spots and the risk of skin burn from spot overlapping.

Even the results vary from person to person, client can usually experience an impressive result after the first session. After multiple sessions (e.g. 8 sessions), most dark hairs of the treated body parts will be reduced. Depends on genetic, hormones and medication background, there will be different levels of hair regrow. Maintenance sessions may be required. LaserKool follows every case closely to review and gives appropriate advices to ensure treatment in the right track.

Hair grows in repeating cycles, and only in the actively growing phase (anagen) does the hair contain enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy to disable the hair follicle. When hair is in the dormant phase (telogen), it has little or no pigment, and cannot absorb the laser light. When you come into LaserKool for your treatment, we disable the hair follicles with actively growing hair in the treatment area. A few weeks later, some of the dormant hairs will have moved into the actively growing stage, and you will come in for a treatment to disable those. As this cycle gets repeated, you experience increasing reduction of hair.

The hair reduction you receive is permanent, but it is impossible to achieve 100% removal of every single follicle in a given area. Over the course of treatment your hair amount will change dramatically and somehow irreversible. Laser targets actively growing hairs and those with adequate dark pigment only. Blonde, grey, transparent hairs and those stay in dormant phase during the entire period of the treatments cannot be treated.

LaserKool selects the right equipment and settings according to the situation of different clients. Clients describe the feeling like “rubber band snapping” or “needling stinging”. The feeling is stronger for client with dense hairs and dark skin. The pain is transient and relieved by our patented cooling agents and devices.

The dense and thick hairs of men absorb more laser and thus more heat is generated. Redness, swelling, perifollicular edema appear right after the treatment are signs of an effective treatment will last for hours. Skin may be dry and itchy so moisturizer should be applied. Mild folliculitis may last for few days. Possible but rare blistering and transient skin lightening or darkening.

To avoid and minimized the side effects, client should follow the pre & post treatment guide of LaserKool. Provide an accurate and updated medical background to therapist. Free patch test is suggested prior to the formal treatment for those with higher risk.

Rare but articles show the phenomenal of Paradoxical hypertrichosis, usually happens on upper body parts like face, neck and back. Root cause and exact healing method are not well-known yet but appropriate laser settings and session interval are key factors to be concerned.

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure and no wounds are formed. However, redness and swelling may last for 30 minutes to hours. Avoid sun exposure and heat, skin will return normal on the next day in most cases. Treatment on certain body parts with more dense hairs like beards usually more painful. With more sebum secretion and poor cleaning, whitehead pimple/mild folliculitis may appear 1-2 days after the treatment.

You should not perform any form of strenuous exercise after laser hair removal treatment within 24 hours. As laser works on the principle of using heat to destroy the hair follicles deep beneath the skin’s surface (selective photothermolysis), an increase in the body’s natural temperature by exercising combined with sweat and friction will cause an increase of irritation on the treatment area. This also applies to swimming where the chlorine in the water can cause irritation to the skin.

At LaserKool, we plan for adequate time to go as slowly or as fast as is comfortable and appropriate for each client.

The size and “topography” of the area treated factors into the time required, as does the amount of preparation. As a general idea, legs and arms take 45 minutes, while an upper lip or cheek may require 5-10 minutes. The back or privates can take as little as 30 minutes. The medium size whole body can be 2.5 hours.

Sure! Laser hair removal is not just an all-or-nothing concept. Therapists of LaserKool are patient to listen to your idea and give opinion to the hair styling of your face, privates, armpits and any body parts with concern.
